Sunday School Options

Note: None of the books here are really intended for a “book-study” style of class. Rather, they’d be used as a reference for a more informal “guided discussion” kind of class, hopefully with plenty of good content.

  • Basics of the Christian Faith
    • The Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney
    • Essential Truths of the Christian Faith by R.C. Sproul
    • Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
    • Others?
  • How to Live as a Christian in Today’s World (at home and in the workplace)
    • How Now Shall We Live by Chuck Colson and Nancy Pearcey
    • Total Truth by Nancy Pearcey
    • Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper
  • Looking at Current Events as a Christian
    • Well, I don’t have much for resources in mind for this one. It would be more of a build-as-we go format, and not have a lot of structure to it from week to week. But, hopefully, it would have a lot of stuff very applicable to current life.
    • The Francis Schaeffer Trilogy by Francis Schaeffer (well, not quite as much)
    • Topic ideas include: relativism, atheism, homosexuality, abortion, war & peace, creation/evolution, media bias, religion in schools & politics, etc.
  • First Sunday plans
    • Introductions for everyone; what is your faith background?
      • From churchiness to new to Jesus to not sure about this faith thing to why-the-heck-am-I-in-church-anyway?
      • Me? Grew up in Christian home, but didn’t take faith serious until high school. God showed me my sin & my need for a Savior. Road of plenty of ups and downs since; atheism has somewhat often been an easy temptation. But God is gracious, and reminds me His grace by keeping me all the time.
    • Talk about options; choose something for topic
