About Me
The Hjelle Jar

The life and times of David Alan Hjelle.

I've been born and raised by my parents in the small Minnesota town of Fergus Falls. I have attended Claire Ann Shover Nursery School, McKinley Elementary, the Fergus Falls Middle School, and Hillcrest Lutheran Academy while in Fergus; I am currently attending Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. I am aiming for majors in mechanical engineering and computer science. This summer, I will be interning at Otter Tail Power Company, also in Fergus Falls.

Odyssey of the Mind, Boy Scouts, and Music (trumpet in the band, tenor in the Hillcrest choir) have made my years relatively busy. Math, science, and computers are also strong interests.

But, one thing comes far above all others: loving and serving my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nothing else is more important. While I strive to serve Him in everything I do, I also realize that there are some things that have eternal significance. Caring for those around us with all we are will always be more important (in the right time and place) than the comparatively piddly things and activities that we tend to populate our day with.

As the days go by, though, I realize more and more how little I can do on my own (nothing) and how much I need to trust God in everything I do. The perfectionist in me doesn't like this very much, but it is so very important to remember.

My prayer is that I can love those around me with God's love and truly show them the joy and meaning there is in my life through Christ Jesus.

I have just added a new genealogy section to the site. It contains well over a thousand names of people in my family tree (and a bit beyond). Check it out!
